OK… so here we go… if you can explain to me the Liberal thought process… email me here please!
Dateline: Friday Oct 16, 2010:
So, my next door neighbor, whom is extremely Liberal, and openly pimps, (sorry went all ghetto there), how he and his wife voted for Obama and the rest of these fools, decides to come over to “talk”, knowing full well that I support the Tea Party movement (I have a sign in my yard). He seems a little distraught or, perhaps, drunk (I’m banking on drunk). He proceeds to tell me that he is going to the Tea Party event at Sam Houston Park here in Houston, TX… because he wants to join the Tea Party movement. Perplexed, and somewhat caught off guard, I asked “Oh really what brings you to this decision?” He says “war man, I’m tired of war man! I have lost too many people to war man!”
At this point I am thoroughly confused… basically, I am thinking this may be a heads you win; tails I lose situation. (Don’t ask… sounded good in my head though). He then continues to explain to me that he is tired of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and how after 9/11 we should have gone into Afghanistan before we went into Iraq, which we actually did, but I digress. Once again, I am at a loss, How does this play into joining the Tea Party movement I question? He responds… Americans have lost too many soldiers, and we should stop the wars. So I ask, again… what do the wars have to do with you joining the Tea Party movement, do you even know what the Tea Party stands for? He has now become cross eyed, (I asked too many real questions)…
I ask again, what does this have to do with the Tea Party? He says “Well I know the Tea Party is totally against war!” Now I am cross eyed! “Really” I said, “that is why you want to join the Tea Party? I mean, no one really likes war… you seriously have no idea what the Tea Party is about, do you?” His response: “Yes I do, I looked it up on the Internet!” My response… “Why don’t you tell me what the Internet told you… because the Internet never lies”… (Exact words… love that, kind of witty!).
At this point he changes the subject (basically he has no answer to the question, damned Internet information, LOL)… now, still avoiding the question, he goes back to how we should have attacked Afghanistan after 9/11 instead of invading Iraq first. I tell him straight up… “We did go to Afghanistan before we went to Iraq!” He then proceeds to say “No we didn’t, we invaded Iraq in 2001. He then says “I don’t know where you get your information… but you are wrong! My friends where there… and a lot of them died right after 9/11 in Iraq.” I can appreciate the losses... but the lack of history I cannot! But wait, it gets better.
So he receives a phone call, (he had sent a text message earlier in the conversation), from a friend that was active military, who was supposed to prove me wrong, and ended up confirming what I already told him about the wars. During this time I pulled up an article showing that we invaded Afghanistan on October 7, 2001, as well as, an article confirming that we invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003. The combination of his friend's information along with mine seemed to fluster, no thoroughly confuse, said liberal, (Amazing what facts do to their head). He then proceeds to tell me “I have read those articles and they are wrong… and my friend is wrong too... I know my history!” By this time I am beginning to wonder what alternate universe this kook is in. I mean what exactly is the wacky history going on in his tiny little brain at this moment in time?
Seeing that this conversation is quickly heading down a dead end street, I go back to my original question. What makes you want to join Tea Party? To which he replies “they are anti war.” By this time I am bewildered beyond imagination. I tell him that the Tea Party has taken no official stance on the wars. The only thing that the Tea Party stands for steadfastly is:
- Fiscal Responsibility
- Constitutionally Limited Government
- Free Markets
For which I provided reading material from the TeaPartyPatriots.org website. By this time he has lost his mind, or rather his fantasy that the Tea Party was right for him.
My next question was “so what do you think of those fundamental beliefs?” Long uncomfortable pause… “Well I’m still voting for Bill White!” (The Democrat running for Governor of Texas) To which I said “Dude, you will never get it…. Just do yourself a favor and see your way out of my house! And come back and see me November 3, then see what you think. And by the way, I think you should go to that Tea Party tomorrow… maybe you will learn some…. Oh who am I kidding? Just go sleep it off!”
OK... I know that was a rant of epic proportions, but I am going somewhere with this. This type of ignorance and lack of historical knowledge seems to be rampant in our society these days. This is exactly why we are in the situation we are today! I tell my kids and those around me all the time... ignorance is not an excuse! Educate yourself, arm yourself with facts, and understand our history. Without these basic tools we are destined to fail as a country. I feel we are on that track right now, but we can change that course starting November 2nd. Educate yourself and those around you. Don't waste time on the useless fools that will not listen. Most of all be responsible and VOTE... It is the most important voice that you have!
Peace my friends, and thanks for your ear!
